The People Involved Jean Cunningham

Jean Cunningham, Librarian

After graduating from Barnard College as a chemistry major, and working a few years in that field, Jean returned to her first love. She earned an MA in music from UC Berkeley, then entered the coterie of performing musicians, as a long-term member of Oakland Symphony's flute section, freelancing and teaching. While still in the Orchestra she became its librarian, later adding management of the Bethards-Massey Library, housed in the Paramount Theatre. Subsequent additions have increased its size from about 60,000 to about 200,000 items. It is now well-known as the Paramount Theatre Music Library, one of the largest of its kind.

Among the many who have contributed to the Library's development, special thanks go to the >Paramount Theatre of the Arts administration and staff.

We would also like to thank those who provided skills, knowledge, advice and encouragement, especially Melanie Archer; Jack Bethards; Mary Kay Duggan; Dr. Ephraim Engleman; Donald Ruffcorn; June Schellinger; John Tenney; Kim Venaas and Alicia Wilmunder; Eva Mae Youngberg.
